We are inviting proposals for panel presentations and workshops on topics relevant to the IFIP WG 9.4 community and broadly in keeping with the conference theme: “Reshaping an Unequal World Through Social Justice and Digital Technologies”.
A panel should aim to present a variety of views on a topical issue in the ICT4D field, to generate debate amongst the panelists and to engage the audience in that debate. Thus, there should be potential for different positions to be put forward for the chosen topic and the proposal should make it clear how the panel will present these different positions. Good candidates for panel topics would be those arising from controversies, academic debates, new research agendas, global/geopolitical challenges, innovations and transformational technological advances and so forth.
A workshop should aim to engage participants on an emerging topic or tool related to the theme of the conference. We welcome a variety formats of workshops, however, the emphasise is that the workshops must be interactive. Submissions for workshops should indicate information on the format of the workshop.
All panel and workshop proposals will be reviewed by the Programme committee taking into account: a topic that will attract an audience, a panel composition that offers a variety of voices, and a workshop/panel format that will encourage audience participation.
Panel and workshop proposals should conform to the following guidelines:
Maximum of three A4 pages in length, consisting of:
An introduction to the topic demonstrating its importance to the field
An exposition of the varying positions held on the topic and how these engender debate
A section with short biographies (max. 100 words) of each presenter
A references section
Each panel should comprise a moderator and a maximum of 4 panellists
The panel format should aim to complete all panellists’ debate and audience engagement in 90 minutes, with at least 30 minutes for audience engagement
Workshops should be no more that 4 hours
It would be expected that all presenters of accepted panel and workshop proposals should commit to attending the conference.
Proposals should be submitted no later than 31 Jan 2024
We will communicate acceptance decisions of proposals by 29 Feb 2024.
Send the proposals to the Programme Chairs:
