Early Career Scientist Day at the 2022 SOLAS Open Science Conference

The SOLAS Early Career Scientist Day (ECSD) is an international, hybrid event that brings together around 30 in person and more online early career scientists and world-leading international scientists for a day of skill development and awareness workshops. In addition, we will do a tour to the Cape Point Nature reserve where we will have a tour of the Meteorological station and the area with stops along the way at either Boulders beach to see the African penguins or at Chapmans Peak.


Application

There are only 30 in person places available for the ECSD, so if you are currently a student or within 10 years of completing your PhD, make sure to join us! You can join us for the workshops through our hybrid format if you are unable to join in person. Please download the document and submit your application by 25 July 2022 to solas2022ecsd@gmail.com.

10:40-11:10        Coffee and Tea break

11:10-12:40        Workshop 2: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion within our Scientific field

12:40-13:00         Break and lunch collection

13:00                   Departure from Conference Centre by bus

14:30                    Arrival at Cape Point, Cape Peninsula

15:00-17:00         Tour of the Meteorological Station and Cape Point

17:30                    Departure from Cape Point, Cape Peninsula

19:00                    Arrival at Conference centre for Ice breaker evening

Please note that the schedule is tentative and could change.


IMPORTANT: No registration fee is required to attend the ECSD. The selected 30 in person participants will have coffee breaks, lunch, and transportation to and from Cape Point paid for. However, participants are responsible for airfare, accommodation and registration for the SOLAS conference.
